I think that media effects everyone whether you think it does or not. A lot of this media is wrong and shouldn't be able to be showed. To start with, the music video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uu8pzck-beI showed how just a simple video could influence the way girls act or dance. These are the things that teenagers are brought up watching, therefore think it is right to dance this way or act like this at such a young age. Teenagers are brought up thinking this is okay, when really adults and parents think that it is an outrage and they shouldn't be acting this way.
The next video was about an advertisement and it shows the steps that were taken to make the advertisement. You can find the video at the following address. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R-HsfFbPYvk . This method of advertisement is just wrong. They show the girl in the beginning the advertisement and what she looks like and then they change her to look almost like a whole different person. Adding the makeup is one thing, but I think after doing that, going on the computer and editing the photo from their is just wrong and they shouldn't do it to make a model look perfect. It influences people and makes them think that they have to look like this person to be attractive or to even get attention. This in a way promotes some of the eating disorders because people are trying to get skinnier
Overall, advertisement of this kind and some of the things on reality T.V and just normal T.V is wrong and should be changed. It is starting to be a big impact on society and really impacting people because they are trying to be perfect. This is a problem because they are trying look like the people that have been edited on computers to look like they do. It is almost impossible to look as perfect as them, because companies make sure they look like that to appeal to other people.
I agree with you to an extent, Mike. should we censor, though? Is there a line between censorship and responsible advertising? I don't really know what the answer is, but it sure doesn't seem like it's okay to manipulate us like that.
